Some of the best conversations at any conference happen outside the main programming. The Lead Summit 2026 is no different. Between official networking events, brand-hosted dinners, and after-hours gatherings, the side events around Pier 36 in NYC can be just as valuable as the sessions themselves.

Here's what we know about so far — and what Future Commerce is hosting.

Future Commerce x Klaviyo Executive Dinner

Date: Evening of May 20, 2026 (day one of The Lead Summit)
Location: One of New York City's most iconic restaurants (details shared upon registration)
Format: Intimate, invite-only executive dinner
Hosted by: Future Commerce and Klaviyo
Capacity: Limited seats

This is our flagship gathering at The Lead Summit 2026. Future Commerce is co-hosting an exclusive executive dinner with Klaviyo on the evening of May 20th — the first night of the conference.

Past Future Commerce dinners have brought together CMOs, founders, and VPs from the brands shaping the next era of commerce. The format is deliberate: no panels, no presentations, no sponsor pitches. Just a great restaurant, a curated guest list, and the kind of conversation that doesn't happen in a conference ballroom.

The executive dinner is where the real conversations happen — the kind that don't fit into a 30-minute panel slot. If you're a senior commerce leader attending The Lead Summit, this is how to start the event.

Official Lead Summit Networking Events

The Lead Summit itself organizes several structured networking opportunities during the two-day event:

Hosted Meetings Program
The Lead Summit's signature networking format. Pre-scheduled, curated one-on-one meetings between retailers/brands and solution providers. If you're evaluating technology partners or looking for specific vendor conversations, sign up through the official registration portal. These fill up fast — don't wait until you arrive.

Welcome Reception (May 20)
The official opening networking event on the first evening of the conference. This is the large-group social event — good for initial introductions and reconnecting with people you know. The venue (Pier 36's waterfront setting) makes this better than the typical hotel ballroom reception.

Networking Lounges
Designated areas throughout the venue for informal conversations between sessions. Pier 36's layout encourages this more naturally than most convention centers — the waterfront setting and open floor plan create organic meeting points.

Brand-Hosted Dinners and Events

Major brands and technology companies typically host their own dinners and events around The Lead Summit. These are usually invite-only, and invitations go out 2-4 weeks before the event.

How to get invited: If you're a qualified buyer or senior leader, many of these invitations come through the hosted meetings program or direct outreach from vendor partners. Check your inbox in late April and early May. If there's a specific company you want to connect with, reach out to your account rep and mention you'll be at The Lead Summit.

NYC After-Hours: Where to Go Near Pier 36

One advantage of The Lead Summit being in New York City rather than a convention center in Las Vegas: the city itself is the after-hours venue. Pier 36 is on the Lower East Side, one of Manhattan's best neighborhoods for dining and nightlife.

Within walking distance:

  • Lower East Side — Some of NYC's best cocktail bars, restaurants, and late-night spots are within a 10-minute walk. Essex Market, Clinton Street, and Orchard Street have strong options.
  • Chinatown — 10 minutes north of the venue. Late-night dining options that most conference cities can't match.
  • East Village — A slightly longer walk (15-20 minutes) but worth it for dinner reservations at standout restaurants.

Short cab/rideshare:

  • DUMBO, Brooklyn — Visible from Pier 36 across the East River. Excellent restaurants and waterfront bars. 10-15 minute cab via the Manhattan Bridge.
  • SoHo / NoLiTa — 15 minutes north. Higher-end dining and cocktails.
  • West Village — 20 minutes across Manhattan. Classic NYC dining neighborhood.

Book dinner reservations early. NYC restaurants don't hold tables for conference attendees. If you want a specific spot, reserve 2-3 weeks out. Apps like Resy and OpenTable are your friends.

Tips for Maximizing Side Events

Based on our experience covering Shoptalk, NRF, and other commerce events:

  1. Prioritize quality over quantity. You don't need to attend five side events. Pick one or two where the guest list matches the conversations you want to have.
  2. The dinner > the after-party. Seated dinners (like our Klaviyo dinner) create better conversations than standing cocktail receptions. If you have to choose, choose the dinner.
  3. Exchange context, not business cards. The people you meet at side events are more likely to become real connections if you share what you're working on, not your title.
  4. Plan recovery time. The Lead Summit's programming starts early on day two. If you're attending the DTC Symposium on May 21, pace yourself on the evening of May 20.
  5. Follow up within 48 hours. The half-life of a conference connection is about a week. Send a note while the context is fresh.
